Creating a fun, enjoyable, and explorative museum experience in an inclusive environment.
During Sensory-Friendly Museum Days, individuals of all ages with autism, complex developmental disabilities, or sensory sensitivities are welcome to experience our Main Exhibit, gift shop, and cafe during special early-morning hours before the museum opens to the general public.
In addition to the museum’s lighting and sound features being augmented and having trained staff on-hand to guide visitors through their experience, the following will be offered:
Sensory Map – Allowing visitors navigate comfortably by indicating areas of high stimulation – including noisy, dark, crowded, or bright spaces.
Social Narratives – Helping learners adjust to a potentially new social situation by describing the environment, highlighting important cues, and offering examples of appropriate ways to respond.
