What is Step into Wellness? Step Into Wellness is a Sullivan 180 walking challenge held during National Wellness Month in August. The challenge brings individuals together to walk, build healthy habits and strengthen community connections.
When is the challenge? The challenge runs from August 1 through August 31, 2026.
When does registration open? Registration opens July 23. Teams can register throughout August.
Is there a cost? No. The challenge is free.
Who can participate? Anyone! Businesses, organizations, agencies, schools, municipalities, community groups, families and friends are invited to create or join a team.
How many individuals are needed for a team? A team must include at least two individuals.
Can an individual participate alone? The challenge is designed for teams of two or more.
What is a team captain? The team captain is the main contact for the team. The captain completes registration, receives challenge updates and helps coordinate submissions. A co-captain or another team member can submit walks.
How often do teams walk? Teams walk together at least once each week. The full team does not need to walk together. Smaller groups can walk at different times, but each walk must include at least two team members. Teams can walk more often.
Does the entire team need to walk together? No. Smaller groups can walk at different times when the entire team cannot participate together. Each submitted walk must include at least two team members.
Is there a required distance? No. There are no required steps, miles, pace or length of time.
Do teams need a fitness tracker? No. The challenge does not track steps or minutes. Reporting miles is optional.
Can teams walk indoors? Yes. Teams can walk indoors or outdoors.
When are walks submitted? Submit each walk through the Sullivan 180 website after it is completed. All walks for the week are due by the following Monday
What is required for each walk? For each walk, provide:

Date walked
Number of participants
One photo
Approximate miles and additional stories are optional.
Is a photo required? Yes. Each walk must include one photo. (Even if several walks are submitted at the same time.)

How are photos and stories used? Sullivan 180 may use photos, stories or quotes in challenge-related communications, including social media, newsletters, website content, presentations and reports.
Are the pre-challenge and post-challenge surveys required? No. The surveys are optional and take only a few minutes. Surveys help Sullivan 180 understand the impact of the challenge.
Are survey responses anonymous? No. First name and Last Name Initial and team type are collected to match pre-challenge and post-challenge responses. Individual responses are reviewed internally and reported only in summary form. No personal or individual data or information will be shared.
Are teams recognized? Yes. Participating teams will be acknowledged at the Sullivan 180 Autumn Celebration on September 23 at Bethel Woods. Sullivan 180 may also share photos, stories and highlights during the challenge.
