“While the United States spends an estimated $3.6 trillion annually on health, less than 3 percent of that spending is directed toward public health and prevention.” – Trust for America’s Health

Sullivan 180 was struck by this staggering statistic, and with that, we have turned our attention, focus, and investments to prevention. “What better way than focusing on our youth in their schools and their communities,” said Sandra Gerry, Founding Chair.

To accomplish this, Sullivan 180 is joined by our sister organization, Sullivan Renaissance, who have brought with them over 20 years of experience in the areas of beautification, community development, and community engagement.

Together, as an enhanced and evolving Sullivan 180, we have refined our focus on our youth; and have set our intentions on prevention and empowering a healthier generation. The work of Sullivan 180 will focus on our schools through the “Empowering a Healthier Generation” Program; and on our communities by working with municipalities and volunteers.

We align our work with the priorities and strategies identified in the Sullivan County Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) which is based on the formal Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA). This allows us to identify where our resources can leverage existing efforts and have the greatest impact.

Powered by our team, our partners, and a grassroots movement of volunteers, we are offering grants and resources and working together to address immediate health concerns and promote innovative ways for all of our residents to live a healthier lifestyle. This encompasses not only physical but also mental, spiritual, economic, and environmental health. Whether it’s increasing access to nutritious food, creating opportunities for physical activity, finding a sense of purpose, or building a sense of belonging— these all contribute to a healthy life and a healthy community.

So important is this purpose that we invite all of Sullivan County to participate. It is a big undertaking that requires all of us. Everyone can do something.

Please look at our programs, initiatives, grant and volunteer opportunities. We hope you will join us in our journey to build a healthy Sullivan County, one community, one school, one child …one degree at a time.
