Everyone has a Role to Play
Making a Difference, One Volunteer at a Time
[LIBERTY, NY] April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, a time to recognize the incredible contributions of volunteers who strengthen our communities. Sullivan 180 invites you to be a part of this season of grassroots engagement by attending the Volunteer and Community Health Champion Orientation on Thursday, May 1, from 5:30-7:30 pm at the CVI Building, 1 Cablevision Center Drive, Liberty.
Sullivan 180 is seeking volunteers to join our mission to build a healthier community—one degree at a time—through people, places, and policy. Volunteers play a key role in driving positive change, as every action, no matter its size, helps create a meaningful and lasting impact.
Individuals can serve as Sullivan 180 Volunteers, Community Health Champions, or work on community projects. Opportunities are tailored to skills, interests, and availability. Volunteers may beautify schools and public spaces, teach workshops, lead health and wellness programs, or support outreach efforts. Everyone has a role to play in making Sullivan County a healthier place to live, learn, work, and play.
"I volunteer to give back to our county, helping people enjoy the beauty of nature. Volunteering is fulfilling, enjoyable, and beneficial for our health," shared Al Russell, a Sullivan 180 Volunteer. "To me, volunteering is priceless—it’s about learning, helping, and making a difference in many ways."
The benefits of volunteering extend far beyond the community—it also enhances personal well-being. A review by AmeriCorps found that volunteers experience lower mortality rates, improved functional ability, and reduced rates of depression compared to non-volunteers. Volunteering has been linked to greater life satisfaction, increased happiness, and overall improved health outcomes.
"Volunteering is a way to stay connected to our communities—from the people in them to the places within them," said Anne-Louise Scandariato, Sullivan 180’s Volunteer Director of Community Engagement. "The gift of time and talent serving others is healthy, exciting, and can lift our spirits."
The Volunteer Orientation is also a chance to meet the Sullivan 180 team, learn about initiatives, projects, and workshops, and explore how you can make a meaningful impact. If you are unsure, stop by to find out more!
