About Sullivan 180

Sullivan 180 is a Sullivan County-based non-profit organization dedicated to building a healthy community through people, places, and policy; with an intentional focus on prevention and empowering a healthier generation. Our work focuses on prevention, youth development, community health, and creating vibrant public spaces through partnerships with schools, municipalities, nonprofits, and community organizations.

Sullivan 180 funds a wide range of initiatives, including youth programming, school-based wellness efforts, parks and recreation, gardening and food access, mental health, and other projects funded. Across this work, we aim to tell authentic, people-centered stories that reflect the uniqueness, diversity, resilience, and strength of Sullivan County.

Purpose of the RFQ

Sullivan 180 is seeking proposals from professional photographers to help us build a high-quality, versatile photo library for use in organizational publications, including our website, annual reports, grant materials, social media, presentations, and marketing collateral.

The ideal photographer (or photographers) will spend several days on-site throughout Sullivan County capturing authentic, engaging images of:

  • Youth participating in healthy activities

  • School-based programs and classrooms

  • Families and community members engaging in recreation

  • Parks, playgrounds, trails, and Main Streets

  • Gardening and food access initiatives

  • Fire departments and first responder partnerships

  • Municipal and nonprofit grant-funded projects

  • Other Sullivan 180 programs and community events

A โ€œvision boardโ€ with example imagery is appended to this RFQ to help communicate the overall look, feel, and tone we are seeking.

Scope of Work

The selected photographer will work collaboratively with Sullivan 180 staff to:

  • Identify appropriate sites, programs, and events to photograph

  • Spend multiple days in Sullivan County capturing candid, documentary-style images

  • Produce a diverse collection of images suitable for long-term organizational use

  • Deliver edited, high-resolution digital files with usage rights for nonprofit communications

Scheduling will be coordinated in advance and may include weekends, school hours, outdoor settings, and community events.

Desired Style & Approach

We are seeking photography that is:

  • Natural, warm, and authentic (not overly posed)

  • People-centered and activity-focused

  • Inclusive and representative of our community

  • Appropriate for nonprofit storytelling and public-facing communications

Experience working in schools, community settings, or nonprofit environments is strongly preferred.

Proposal Submission Requirements

Interested photographers should submit the following:

  1. Cover Letter

    • Brief introduction and interest in the project

    • Relevant experience with similar subject matter

  2. Portfolio or Work Samples

    • Examples of photography featuring people, communities, youth, public spaces, or nonprofit work

    • Links to an online portfolio are acceptable

  3. Cost Proposal

    • Day rate and/or hourly rate

    • Any additional costs (travel, editing, licensing, etc.)

  4. Availability

    • General availability over the coming months

    • Ability to work in Sullivan County, NY

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

  • Quality and relevance of portfolio

  • Experience with similar subject matter

  • Understanding of Sullivan 180โ€™s mission and goals

  • Cost and flexibility

  • Ability to work collaboratively in community settings

Additional Information

Sullivan 180 reserves the right to request additional information, conduct interviews, or select one or more photographers based on organizational needs. This RFQ does not obligate Sullivan 180 to award a contract or cover proposal preparation costs.
