$57,700 Awarded to 33 School Based Wellness Projects Across Sullivan County

[LIBERTY, NY] – Sullivan 180, through its Empowering a Healthier Generation Program, partnered with Cornell Cooperative Extension-Sullivan County (CCESC) to administer the Creating Healthy Schools & Communities (CHSC) grant during the 2024–2025 school year. The CHSC grant is supported by Creating Healthy Schools and Communities (CHSC), a five-year New York State Department of Health funded initiative, helping to build stronger, healthier communities. Through this one-year partnership, $57,700 in CHSC funding was awarded to support 33 nutrition and physical activity projects across six public school districts:

·         Eldred Central School District

·         Livingston Manor Central School District

·         Monticello Central School District

·         Roscoe Central School District

·         Sullivan BOCES

·         Sullivan West Central School District

“While this partnership spanned just one school year, the work we’re doing is designed to have lasting impact,” said Stacey Trinidad, Sullivan 180 Healthier Generation Coordinator. “Our goal is to support schools in building healthier environments that will benefit students for years to come.”

“We are excited about the growing interest that we’ve seen from schools to expand wellness initiatives through our partnership with Sullivan 180,” said Nancy McGraw, MPH, Association Team Leader, at CCESC. “As a result of funding from the Creating Healthy Schools and Communities (CHSC) grant, many initiatives were implemented this year and equipment purchased to improve physical activity and nutrition in schools. In the coming year, CCESC staff will work with schools on sustainability activities.”
