Youth making a difference in their communities

[LIBERTY, NY] – The 2023 class of Sullivan 180 Interns have begun their work to care for gardens and other public spaces in communities throughout Sullivan County. From small planters and established gardens, to park enhancements and beautifying Main Streets, interns are working with community volunteers to make a difference in their neighborhoods.

“In addition to connecting with peers, the internship program offers a great way to learn about Sullivan County and connect with other community members,” said Anne-Louise Scandariato, Director of Community Engagement at Sullivan 180. “Interns work on expanding their communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and leadership skills while being part of a team.”

The 2023 Sullivan 180 Interns are:

· Gavin Bassney - Callicoon Depot Inc. and Callicoon Business Association

· Keegan Baggatta- Greater Barryville Chamber of Commerce

· Ralph Cherubino- Livingston Manor Renaissance

· Mason Succi- Town of Lumberland Parks and Recreation

· Kara Schutte- Town of Bethel

· Nora Liddle- Town of Liberty

· Konnar Williams- Town of Liberty

· Lukas Redzimski- Town of Thompson

· Jordyn Wall-Carty- Village of Woodridge

In addition to caring for gardens and public spaces, interns participate in weekly meetings where they discuss current issues, meet with local leaders, develop leadership skills and explore career options. They will also choose, plan and implement a service learning project.

The Internship Program is an opportunity for youth between the ages of 16 - 20 years old to be part of the movement to change and shape the future of communities throughout Sullivan County. It is also a way for groups participating in the program to receive additional help for their project while mentoring a young person in the community.
