Sullivan 180 Interns Working Together
Leadership Through Community Service
[LIBERTY, NY] - The 2024 class of Sullivan 180 interns have spent the summer working alongside community volunteers and municipal staff to care for public spaces across Sullivan County. In addition to gaining hands-on experience and insights into their own abilities and work styles, they are participating in leadership sessions held throughout the county, where they discuss current events, visit Sullivan 180 projects, and explore various leadership styles and skills.
“Our goal is to provide young people with an experience where they can develop a sense of place and find their voice on issues that are important to them,” said Anne-Louise Scandariato, Sullivan 180 Director of Community Engagement. “Each year we meet amazing youth from throughout Sullivan County. We hope that their experience with this program will stay with them through the summer and beyond.”
As part of their experience the interns recently took part in a "Day of Service" at Walnut Mountain Park in Liberty. They collaborated with staff from the Town of Liberty Parks and Recreation and Sullivan 180 to improve the disc golf course and the baseball field dugouts. They learned about the history of Walnut Mountain Park and the park’s numerous activities and amenities from Nick Rusin, Town of Liberty Confidential Secretary.
“We at the Town of Liberty greatly value our partnerships. Sullivan 180 and their team of Interns have been an invaluable partner to our town and the people of our community,” noted Rusin. “The positive energy and hard work displayed by Sullivan 180 Interns and staff will go far in keeping Walnut Mountain Park one of our best public spaces not only for our town but for the greater community as well. On behalf of the Town of Liberty, we thank you!”
