A National Wellness Month Walking Challenge

August 1 through August 31, 2026

Gather your team and walk your way through National Wellness Month. Step Into Wellness is a Sullivan 180 walking challenge taking place August 1 through August 31. Sign on for this walking challenge to build healthy routines and connections with coworkers, friends, neighbors and family. There is no charge to participate.

Businesses, organizations, agencies, schools, municipalities, community groups, families and friends are invited to create or join a team. Two or more people constitute a team. There are no required steps, miles or pace. Start small, walk together and participate in a way that works for your team.

Why Step into Wellness?

Walking is a simple way to add movement to your day, spend time with others, explore new places, enjoy the outdoors and build healthy routines.

Who Can Participate?

Teams can be established representing:

  • Businesses and workplaces

  • Nonprofits and community organizations

  • Government agencies and municipalities

  • Schools and youth-serving organizations

  • Healthcare organizations

  • Fire departments and emergency services

  • Libraries and civic organizations

  • Families, friends

  • Walking clubs

  • Sports and recreational groups

  • Neighborhoods

  • Any group of at least two individuals

How It Works

  1. Create a team of at least two people and identify a team captain or co-captains.

  2. Register through the Sullivan 180 website here.

  3. All team members should complete the pre-challenge survey before their first walk.

  4. Walk together at least once each week throughout August.

  5. Submit each walk through the Sullivan 180 website here.

  6. All team members should complete the post-challenge survey by August 31.

The full team does not need to walk together each time. Smaller groups can walk at different times, but each walk must include at least two team members.

To Submit Walks

Submit each walk through the Sullivan 180 website after it is completed. All walks for the week are due by the following Monday.

For each walk, provide:

  • Team name

  • Date walked

  • Location of walk

  • Number of participants

  • One photo from the walk

  • Optional approximate miles

  • Any additional information about your team’s walk

The challenge does not track steps or minutes.

Recognition

Participating teams are acknowledged at the Sullivan 180 Autumn Celebration on September 23 at Bethel Woods. Sullivan 180 shares team photos, stories and highlights throughout the challenge.

August 3 through August 9 | Join the Movement

Start small and walk together.

August 10 through August 16 | Connect Through Walking

Invite someone new or use your walk to strengthen a connection.

August 17 through August 23 | Discover Sullivan County

Try a new route or explore a local park, trail, school track, downtown, neighborhood or public space.

August 24 through August 31 | Celebrate Wellness Together

Celebrate your progress, share your final photos and complete the post-challenge survey.
